Day 2, October 2, Friday: Arrive/Geneva - Annecy
Arrive at Geneva International Airport, proceed through Passport Control, claim your luggage, and your Peter’s Way Tours tour manager, Etienne, will meet you upon your exit from Customs. Board your comfortable motor coach and be on your way to a panoramic tour of Geneva. Geneva, a cosmopolitan city, located on the southwestern shore of Lake Geneva in a relaxed and graceful atmosphere. Your orientation tour of Geneva includes the breathtaking panoramic lakefront and Jet d'Eau, a tall stream of water gushing from the lake, and unique landmark of this city. Continue to the village of Annecy magnificently situated on Lake Annecy, also known as the Blue Lake, in the heart of the Savoy Alps. Check-in at hotel.

This morning, we will have an orientation tour of Annecy. St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane Frances de Chantal founded the Congregation of the Visitation at Annecy in 1610. Relics of these saints are in the Basilica of the Visitation at Annecy. Celebrate 9:00am Private Mass at the Basilica of the Visitation.

After buffet dinner at hotel, leave for Taizé and arrive in time for the evening Prayer Community.

Map Celebrated for the apparitions of Our Lord to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, where the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Our Lord originated in the Convent of the Visitation. Visit the great medieval church, built as the official basilica to commemorate this event, and its beautiful gardens. Celebrate 11:00am Private Mass at the Shrine of the Apparitions.

Continue to Nevers to visit St. Gildard’s Convent to pray before the uncorrupted body of St. Bernadette. At the conclusion of the eighteen apparitions of the Virgin Mary in Lourdes, St. Bernadette lived for 12 years as a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Never. St. Bernadette eventually died of asthma at the age of 35. In the same chapel is the heart of Father Thomas Price, one of the founders of Maryknoll.

This morning, we drive to the northern coast of France to visit the beautiful monastery of Mont-St-Michel. You will approach this tiny island by a causeway built in 1877, and enter the medieval village of 250 inhabitants by three massive stone gates. Surrounded by the sea and soaring proudly above glistening sands, the silhouette of Mont-St-Michel is one of the most enchanting sights in all of France. The great Benedictine Abbey Fortress that crowns this mass of granite began in 1017. A monastery built on three levels was added to the church‘s north side in the early 13th century. Celebrate 11:00am Scheduled Mass at St. Peter’s Church, followed by a 30-minute Recital, sung by St. Michel’s Church Choir.

Continue to Bayeux, a city rich in Norman history and the first French town to be liberated during the D-Day Invasion, on June 7, 1944. Pass through St. Mere Eglise for a short visit. Visit the Gothic Cathedrale Notre-Dame, and the Musée de la Tapisserie de Bayeux, which houses the spectacular Bayeux Tapestry. One of the most famous tapestries in the world, it is actually embroidery on a band of linen, 231 feet long and 20 inches wide. The tapestry depicts some 58 scenes in eight colors, which tells the story of the conquest of England by William the Conqueror.

Day 6, October 6, Tuesday: Lisieux – Landing Beaches
Buffet breakfast at hotel.
Begin our day with a visit to the little town of Lisieux, the home of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus. We will visit “Les Buisonnets”, the humble dwelling of this modern-day saint until she entered the Carmel Convent at the tender age of 15. Here lies the body of the “Little Flower” who died at only 24. We will also visit the astonishing Basilica of St. Thérèse, the Crypt, plus the 13th Century Gothic Norman Cathedral of St. Peter. Celebrate 9:00am Scheduled Mass, followed by 15-minute Recital, presented by St. Michael Church Choir.
Independent lunch.
After lunch, we visit the sites of the D-Day Landings, the Allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. Our first stop will be the American Military Cemetery of St. Laurent, where over 9,000 Americans who died in the Normandy campaign are buried. Time will be given for prayer and reflection. We continue with a walk on Omaha Beach, where we will view the US Monument. Our D-Day sightseeing concludes with time to explore Pointe du Hoc, the enemy command post of the entire invasion front, which is filled with monuments and memorials.

This afternoon, we visit Chartres. The Cathedral spires of Chartres can be seen from miles away, it rises out of the wheat fields of the Beauce Plains. At Chartres, we will visit Chartres Cathedral, the jewel in the crown of medieval churches in Europe and a testimony in stone to the religious fervor of the Middle Ages. Chartres Cathedral boasts an unrivaled expanse of sculpture, as well as one of Europe’s most impressive collections of stained-glass windows. See the Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartres, which houses the Sancta Camisia, a tunic that we believe belonged to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Map

This morning, we transfer to visit Rue de Bac, the Shrine of the Miraculous Medal and see the incorrupt body of St. Catherine Laboure whose guardian angel led her to the chapel where the Blessed Virgin displayed a vision of the Miraculous Medal. Celebrate 9:30am Private Mass at the Basilica. After Mass, we continue to visit the Shrine of St. Vincent de Paul. Continue to Ile de la Cité, where you will visit the magnificent cathedral, Notre-Dame-de-Paris. Its massive flying buttresses, famous towers, and elegant rose windows will take your breath away. Continue to visit the nearby Sainte Chapelle, a masterpiece of Flamboyant Gothic architecture built by Saint Louis in the heart of the Palais de la Cité on the Ile de la Cité in Paris. Discover its unique stained glass windows rendering the air iridescent with light and color, symbols of the Heavenly Jerusalem.

After breakfast, visit the historic town of Rouen. It was here that Rollo, the Viking warrior and first duke of Normandy, converted to Christianity in the 10th century. Four centuries later in 1431, Joan of Arc, the patron saint of France, was tried for heresy and burnt alive at the stake. Rouen, packed with lovely churches and old half-timbered houses, include poignant reminders of Joan of Arc. A dazzling modern church and memorial dedicated to Joan can be seen. Visit the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Rouen, which was often chosen by the French Impressionist painter, Monet, as the facade building in many of his paintings. The Rouen Cathedral boasts a strong musical tradition since the Middle Ages. This particular choir was famous up until the French Revolution, for singing from memorization. The first major organist was Jean Titelouze, the so-called father of the French organ school, who occupied the post for the titular organist in 1588 – 1633.

End our afternoon with a visit to the fascinating Artist Square and Sacré Coeur Basilica, with its huge bell tower and onion-shaped domes-one of the city’s most familiar sights.
